1st Annual Ribs & Ritas Fundraiser – June 6, 2015
It was an evening full of FUN! On June 6th, founders Heather and Clint Swindall held a fundraiser at their home in Bulverde, TX. It was in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of fundraising for First Chance Foundation. We received our first monetary donation in 2005 to help support abandoned, abused and neglected children.
Attendees were invited to help us celebrate the ten year anniversary of that first donation by attending our 1st Annual Ribs & ‘Ritas fundraising event to support the organization’s programs.
There was something for every adult!
Silent Auction – Salsa Contest – and a Whole Hog smoked by Clint Swindall and Ryan Caroll! We had appetizers for the 500 Club Members (Matt Wheat). We even had ribs for everyone. They were provided by some wonderful BBQ cooks – Good Life BBQ (Clint Swindall), Giant BBQ (Darwin Hoel), Leftovers BBQ (Brian Kempker).
The 500 Club gave admission for two (an hour earlier than other guests) to “Ribs & ‘Ritas”, a set of hand-blown margarita glasses, and two “Ribs & ‘Ritas” event t-shirts. At the event we even had a special drawing for the 500 club members. A child from one of the shelters we support painted a beautiful piece of art. This framed art was given away through a random drawing to Candy and Steve Bridges.
In addition to ticket sales, we raised funds through a silent auction. Here are some of our donors:
Natural Bridge Caverns
BMH Custom Knives
Black & Bleu’s Bone Barkery
Amy Mireles Art
Hinee Gourmet Coffee
Scentsy – Heather Kempker
Fatso’s Sports Garden
Sleek to Chic Interiors
Hearts & Hands
South Texas Growers
Friends of First Chance Foundation
Embellish Custom Interior Design
Texas Pepper Jelly
Bulverde Feed & Seed
It is important to note the event was presented by Verbalocity, Inc. All expenses to host the event were paid by Verbalocity. As a result, every dollar generated from the silent auction and ticket sales proceeds will go directly to First Chance Foundation programs supporting disadvantaged children.
In total, $26K was raised at the June 6th Ribs & Ritas event. We thank all who attended, and supported the event through their time, talent and treasure!
Wake the World, TX 2015 – July 13, 2015
Six years have flown by! For the past six years we have spent one Monday in July at Canyon Lake! We have been honored to be involved with Wake the World for 6 consecutive years. St. Jude’s Ranch for Children (both campuses Bulverde and New Braunfels) and Roy Maas Youth Alternatives in Boerne were once again the children’s shelters of choice for the event.
The event is focused on giving the children a memory making day at the lake. So many children who grow up in loving environments get at least one day at a lake, ocean, river, etc…sometime during their childhood. This event provides a day for those children who may not have had such a chance.
The day starts with fun ice breaker games to get the kids comfortable with the volunteer boat drivers and crews. After some time on the lake everyone comes in to shore for a great lunch and then at the end a fabulous dinner! this year we had the pleasure of having SA Live Host Jeff Roper attend and help spread the word about Wake the World!
A big thank you goes out to all those who give every year!
