Wake the World, TX 2014 – July 21, 2014
For the past five years we have been spending one of our Monday’s in July at Canyon Lake! We have had the pleasure of being involved with Wake the World for 5 consecutive years. Again, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children (both campuses Bulverde and New Braunfels) and Roy Maas Youth Alternatives in Boerne were the children’s shelters of choice for the event.
The event is focused on giving the children a memory making day at the lake. So many children who grow up in loving environments get at least one day at a lake, ocean, river, etc…sometime during their childhood. This event provides a day for those children who may not have had such a chance.
The day starts with fun ice breaker games to get the kids comfortable with the volunteer boat drivers and crews. After some time on the lake everyone comes in to shore for a great lunch and then at the end a fabulous dinner!
A big thank you goes out to all those who give of their time, talent and treasure each and every year!

Hair-a-Thon 2014 – August 18, 2014
Another school year has come and once again First Chance Foundation partnered with the Rainbow Room (Child Protective Services Emergency Resource Center) to provide hygiene products to children in the local foster care system. The children who arrived to get their hair cut and styled were given bags filled with hair and hygiene supplies! This bags were given to the children on August 18th at the Annual Hair-a-Thon, hosted by the Aveda Institute.
While Aveda helped the children feel special with a haircut and style for the 2014-15 school year, we provided a gender appropriate bag full of hygiene supplies to get them looking good for the new school year! We were also able to give away fun door prizes to the children throughout the day. Door prizes included, flat irons, movie passes, gift cards to local restaurants, etc…
We were able to do all these things because we have wonderful donors!
Scholarship Foundation 2014
Once again, First Chance supported this leadership program! November 11, 2014, was a full day of etiquette training. Starting with the kids presenting an etiquette program to their peers. The students based their etiquette training around social media and resume etiquette. During lunch professional etiquette trainer, Diane Gottsman, come in to teach the kids about the multiple aspects of business, eating and social etiquette.
Each year the Scholarship Foundation hold a four (4) day seminar series (not on consecutive days) to teach the participants about leadership and helped develop their skills throughout the 4 day series.
McKenna Children’s Museum has a wonderful place for this event to be held. It is a fun learning experience for the students! This location gives the students an opportunity to enjoy some fun and relaxing time at the facility as well. All around great learning experience. The students received a tour of the facility and were able to ask questions of the volunteers and employees.
We continue to support the Scholarship Foundation because they have the same goals as our organization, which is to help youth become leaders of today and tomorrow.
