Scholarship Foundation 2012
First Chance supported this program on November 2, 2012. Each year they hold a four (4) day seminar series (not on consecutive days) to teach the participants about leadership and helped develop their skills throughout the 4 day series. On the day of our support they had professional etiquette trainer, Diane Gottsman, come in for the day to teach the kids about business, eating and social etiquette. This year the youth presented an etiquette program, to the other participants in the program, about social media and phone etiquette.
The program for etiquette training has been held at the McKenna Children’s Museum every year. This gives the students an opportunity to enjoy some of the fun things offered at the facility as well. The day was a great learning experience for the participants. They received a tour of the facility and were able to ask questions of the volunteers and employees.
We continue to support the Scholarship Foundation because they have the same goals as our organization, which is to help youth become leaders of today and tomorrow.
Wake the World, TX 2012 – July 23, 2012
This was our third year to be involved in this fabulous event. Once again we supported two children’s homes. St. Jude’s Ranch for Children (both campuses Bulverde and New Braunfels) and Roy Maas Youth Alternatives in Boerne. We didn’t reach more homes, but we did reach more kids. The event is focused on giving the children a memory making day at the lake. So many children who grow up in loving environments get at least one day at a lake, ocean, river, etc…sometime during their childhood. This event provides a day for those children who may not have had such a chance.
We always start the day with ice breaker games to get the kids comfortable with the volunteer boat drivers and crews.
The smiles on the faces of the kids is never-ending and we can’t thank all those who give of their time, talent and treasure each year enough!
